Chennai – Viluppuram RRTS – Regional Rapid Transit System – Proposed
State Government has proposed a Regional Rapid Transit System known as RRTS from Chennai to Viluppuram, the proposed system will have the major station at Kilambakkam connecting the Kilambakkam Bus Stand.
The primary goal for the corridor is cut short the current 3.5 hours – 4 hours travel by approximately 1 hour. The proposed Regional Rapid Transit System will be operated at a max speed of 160 km/hr.
The estimated cost of the project is 75000 Crore, present status of the project as early on 2026, the feasibility study is completed. The project is at present in planning stage and awaiting approval from Government for detail project report.

The line is planned to start in the city and run south, effectively acting as a high-speed parallel to the existing suburban beach-Chengalpattu line.

There is also a proposed branch connecting Tindivanam to Puducherry and Cuddalore.
As its an earlier stage, further process are required to complete the project and there will be timelines for the same. There are land acquistions pending, state, government funding are required. as of now its an proposal in place.
KSRTC Launches New AC Superfast Bus Service from Chalakudy to Coimbatore
KSRTC, the state owned bus operator of Kerala Government has announced the launch of new bus service from Chalakudy to Coimbatore. For a brief Chalakudy is a town in Thrissur district of Kerala.
The new bus service is operated with Superfast AC Bus newly inducted for long distance bus service. The bus service have 3*2 seating arrangements, air conditioning, mobile charging ports.
The new superfast bus service is operated via Thrissur, Alathur, Velanthavalam, Madukarrai, Kuniamuthur.

Chennai To Tirunelveli SETC Volvo AC MultiAxle Semi Sleeper Bus Service Timings Fare
State Express Transport Corporation has announced the launch of new bus service from Chennai To Tirunelveli with Volvo AC Multiaxle 9600 B8R Semi Sleeper Coach. SETC already operates fleets between Chennai and Tirunelveli with other category of coaches such as Ultra Deluxe, AC Seater, AC Seater Cum Sleeper, AC Sleeper and Non AC Seater Cum Sleeper. SETC recently inducted 20 Volvo AC Multi Axle Bus Service for its long distance intercity and interstate operations.
The bus service will depart everyday evening at 6:00 PM from Chennai Kilambakkam KCBT and arrive in Tirunelveli next day morning at 4:00 AM.
