Tamilnadu Government has given guidelines to transport department consisting of TNSTC and SETC to operate 1050 special buses on 26th Jan 2026, for the public returning after long weekend. The bus service will be operated from major destinations such as Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, Trichy, Nagercoil, Tirunelveli, Madurai towards Chennai and Bangalore.
To manage the increased travel demand, 800 special buses will be operated to Chennai from various destinations across the state. In addition, 250 special buses will be operated for return journeys from major towns back to Chennai on the same day.

Based on last year’s travel data during the same period:

20,254 passengers travelled from Chennai

12,811 passengers used services from other regions

8,566 passengers travelled via rural routes

A total of 19,353 passengers benefited from these special services
